Me giving the gears to the Globe for its crappy review of Dan Mangen concert

Here's what I posted on the Globe website, following Brad Wheeler's lame review:
Everyone loved the show. It was one of the best concerts I've seen in a long, long time. Maybe you just don't like his music?

At least you acknowledge that fans liked the show, even though "it's not clear why". Maybe you need to work a bit harder at seeing what people are finding in Dan? That would be interesting -- like that book about Celine Dion by the guy who hates her music...

Say something interesting, in short, other than your bewilderment. "I don't get it" is just lazy journalism. Sorry.
Here's the link to the article and my comment.

WNYC RadioLab's new episode - "Limits"

For me, a new episode of RadioLab, a podcast out of New York, is an event. The free podcast does a very difficult thing: experiments with audio journalism, while keeping the content interesting and gripping. Here's their summary of the new show, Limits:

In this new hour of Radiolab, we journey to the edge of human limits to find out how much the body and brain can endure–from physically exhausting races, to mind-stretching memory competitions. And we’ll ask if there are limits to human scientific understanding…limits that machines and robots have already overcome.

Dan Mangen delivers the goods to full house at the Horseshoe last night

His new album, Nice, Nice, Very Nice has been my go-to fave for months. I was worried the concert was going to let me down... But,... wow! He's even better live. And, he's Canadian!

BBC Radio Documentary: Living with Tourists

Tourism is the world's largest industry and with predictions it could be worth $15 trillion by the end of this decade, few countries can afford to ignore it. But reactions to hosting tourists vary enormously from place to place.

This excellent documentary (audio-podcast) explores the issue. It raises the interesting question: can tourism and REAL community cohabit, or does Tourism necessarily kill the place that it brings people to...?
